----- DJ John LePage
John LePage, a San Franciscan with the sensibility of his native Canada, is one of those rare DJ’s who has managed to not only avoid the pinch of the recession, but rather extract that inner sense of carpe diem to take his refined sound and cross-over appeal to the next level. Pointing to his mentor, Billy Carroll, LePage explains that House was the first thing he knew when he hit the clubs of Montreal while in college in the early ‘90s, and the fascination has stuck. With a strong emphasis on reaching just the right amount of vocals for the crowd at hand, LePage’s sets can best be described as that proverbial journey – with some forks in the road. Born in Toronto and educated in Montreal, LePage cut his teeth on the scene in such iconic clubs as Kox and Sky. It was in Montreal where he met Carroll, and one night in particular, at a Wet and Wild party, stands out in his memory. After a few stints in Montreal, LePage moved to New York City where he began to develop his resume. It was the heyday of clubs and bars in New York City, and LePage made an instant impression – he immediately became a resident DJ at one of the gay grails, Splash, and began to hit the road to play some of the newly minted circuit parties: Black and Blue in Montreal and Miami’s White and Winter Parties. Meanwhile, he had the forethought to take a turn at producing. After remixing and producing some tracks for Nervous Records, he released two compilations that may ring a bell, “New York Groove One” and “Two” on his own label, Groove Records. As though LePage hadn’t already carved out a niche for himself in clubland, proving that he could spin with grit, it wasn’t until he met promoter Harry Lit that he truly found his calling. Through Harry, LePage was invited to play Lazy Bear, a circuit party for the grizzly set – John soon became their ring leader. In 2004, LePage moved to San Francisco where he sealed his reputation as the jock for the bear scene, playing parties like Sweat, Northern Exposure in Seattle, Beef Dip in Puerto Vallarta, and The Onyx Ball in Toronto New Year’s Eve. “I love it, and I don’t mind having the bear DJ reputation because it’s really my scene,” LePage enthuses. “The best past is that the music is no different in the bear scene than it is in the regular circuit scene – these guys are into the same music as the circuit boys. The crowd is very versatile, and pretty sophisticated … you don’t have to play YMCA!” In June of 2010 John resurrected his record label, Groove Records, in digital download format. His first single, Heaven, featuring Debby Holiday & LFB became a hit on the circuit and went to #21 on the Billboard dance chart. ----- Track Listings:

PLAYPOD 11.01 - DJ Steve Sherwood (SFO) - PLAY T-Dance February 2011 DJ Steve Sherwood first began listening to electronic music in the late 90's when his younger sister unknowingly left a cassette tape with a live set by Carl Cox on the floor of his car. He quickly fell for the harder side of dance music and became a regular at underground raves held in the Arizona desert. In the summer of 2000, he moved to San Francisco and was transformed by the diverse local dance scene, which includes parties like Universe, Pleasuredome, Mass, Fag Fridays, and Trannyshack. After a year of immersing himself in San Francisco's vibrant nightlife Steve bought a pair of Technics turntables off of Craigslist and began crafting his own unique sound that incorporates elements of vocal, disco, tribal, and progressive house with occasional forays into techno and trance. A decade later he finds himself travelling around the world, bringing his signature sound to parties in London, Vancouver, and Los Angeles as well as his hometown of San Francisco where he is a resident DJ with Bearracuda and The Lookout. His music has also been featured on several syndicated podcasts including Joe.My.God, PLAY T-Dance, and Electronic Music Bears. More information and music are available at:

Craig Gaibler has been passionate about music his entire life. From early childhood, he was classically trained in piano, and spent his young adult life exploring various musical styles. Early in college, in the murky warehouse raves of Seattle, he discovered the electronic music scene, developing his appreciation for all things house. After coming out of the closet and meeting local Seattle DJs, Craig began hanging out in clubs, eager to learn the craft of mixing. In April of 2008, shortly after moving to San Francisco and feeling inspired by the local scene, Craig began to pursue his dream of becoming a DJ. His big break happened while attending the world-famous Lazy Bear Weekend in Guerneville, CA. Promoters Harry Lit and George Delmar asked him to spin a last-minute gig, and his career was launched. Some of his accomplishments since then include DJing the infamous Folsom Street Fair, Seven Deadly Sins: Vanity in Seattle, SWEAT in Palm Springs, Off White Party in Charlotte, as well as Bearracuda and Industry in San Francisco. While Craig loves all types of music, his DJ style ranges from funky and vocal house, to uplifting tea-dance hi-energy music, to more progressive, circuit and deep late night sounds. Craig plays what he calls a ‘luscious’ sound, and is known for playing energetic, uplifting music with an emphasis on melodic and layered sounds. In August, Craig was asked to create a two-hour set to be played on Past Curfew’s Official Sundance Party Bus, which transported more than 40 guests from San Francisco to Guerneville in Russian River California for the annual Sundance Morning Party, produced by Gus Presents. This podcast features that two-hour set. Website: http://www.djcraiggaibler.com/
